Late Night Snacking

Late Night Snacking

We have all heard that late night snacking is bad. WELL it is not all bad, however it can be bad if snacking considerations are not taken into effect. Below will be the good and bad of late night snacking.
Good:
By being a night owl late night snacks can still be ok. Say you eat dinner around 8 ish, and at 10 you have a snack. As long as you are doing something, like laundry, homework, or studying calories are still being burned.
Practicing portioning, by doing this you will be able to control the calories as well.
Also just being smarter about what you snack with, like an apple, yogurt, or oatmeal.

Bad:
While last night snacking, mindless snack are consumed. No attention is paid to the type of snack being eaten.
High sugar and fat snacks are usually the go to and people sit down with the whole box or bag,
Going to bed right after a snack is usually the process that most people take and this is bad because those calories then will never be burnt.

As a general rule try to avoid late night snacking, but if you do indulge, make sure they are healthy choices.

  1. This seems to be my biggest Problem with my lifting, I can be solid for all day but right bed, the wheels fall off. I just cannot seem to pass up a pop-tart or two before bed. I know it is not health or even good, but how do you stop it. Sometimes it is almost like your stomach is begging you to eat before bed.

  2. I struggle with this all the time. Being in college and staying up late doing homework I always get hungry and I have a snack but it's not always healthy. I have been more proactive with buying and prepping late night snacks. But sheetz and dominos are so tasty and stay open very late.

  3. This is something that I'm sure many individuals struggle with. Especially being in college, most will eat anything they can there hands on with no regard for the time they do so. I liked how you laid out some healthy options that I'm sure you use regularly. Personally, I have had my struggles with this however I have gotten better with my choices lately.

  4. Thanks for the information and suggestions KT. This is something that I know I do a lot. I'm always hungry, even after I've had a big dinner. It is tough because I feel like I shouldn't snack late but I know it is bad to go to bed on an empty stomach. I will have to try some of these tips out.
