Late Night Snacking

Late Night Snacking

We have all heard that late night snacking is bad. WELL it is not all bad, however it can be bad if snacking considerations are not taken into effect. Below will be the good and bad of late night snacking.
Good:
By being a night owl late night snacks can still be ok. Say you eat dinner around 8 ish, and at 10 you have a snack. As long as you are doing something, like laundry, homework, or studying calories are still being burned.
Practicing portioning, by doing this you will be able to control the calories as well.
Also just being smarter about what you snack with, like an apple, yogurt, or oatmeal.

Bad:
While last night snacking, mindless snack are consumed. No attention is paid to the type of snack being eaten.
High sugar and fat snacks are usually the go to and people sit down with the whole box or bag,
Going to bed right after a snack is usually the process that most people take and this is bad because those calories then will never be burnt.

As a general rule try to avoid late night snacking, but if you do indulge, make sure they are healthy choices.

Grading and Assessment

Grading and Assessment
11/17/2015

The big debate going on for Physical and Health educators is what to grade students on. If a student can throw a football does that make them physically educated? The answer is no. Teachers should be teaching the knowledge needed to continue a healthy lifestyle. So grading should be graded less on the skill and more on the knowledge. Educators and students need to know that physical education class is more than sports and athletes.

Coffee

Coffee
11/15/2015

Coffee is a great friend to college students, for me anyways. On average 8 oz. of coffee has 100mg of caffeine, so 3-4 cups of coffee is considered healthy for adults. Coffee drinking can sometimes get out of hand as well and cause side effects. Some harmful side effects are, rapid heart rate, difficulty sleeping, frequent urination, nausea, headaches, anxiety, muscle tremors, decreased bone mass density, breast lumps, and nutrition issues in children. Now these are all possible effects but if you stay within the 300mg to 400mg these issues will should not arise. Although it may be tough for busy students like us, it is a necessary precaution.

SRU Athletics

Tonight November 13th, both Slippery Rock Men and Women basketball teams have their first home opener. Slippery Rock takes pride in all sports here, but especially basketball. The girls ended their season last year making playoffs for the first time in 11 years I believe. Men's team did excellent as well with a great season. Both teams have been practicing hard so the game tonight should be interesting.
