Coffee

Coffee

Coffee is a great friend to college students, for me anyways. On average 8 oz. of coffee has 100mg of caffeine, so 3-4 cups of coffee is considered healthy for adults. Coffee drinking can sometimes get out of hand as well and cause side effects. Some harmful side effects are, rapid heart rate, difficulty sleeping, frequent urination, nausea, headaches, anxiety, muscle tremors, decreased bone mass density, breast lumps, and nutrition issues in children. Now these are all possible effects but if you stay within the 300mg to 400mg these issues will should not arise. Although it may be tough for busy students like us, it is a necessary precaution.

  1. Before college I went to Starbucks like once a week and would get a drink with barely and coffee in it. I used to not like the taste of coffee, but now that I'm in my second year of college I have totally changed. I'm always drinking coffee and getting shots of espresso at Starbucks to keep me awake and functioning throughout the day. Too much coffee or having coffee too late at night can definitely be a bad thing. One night I had so much homework to do and I ended up drinking 8 cups of coffee between 8:00pm and 10:00pm. I couldn't even get a few hours of sleep that night because of the amount of coffee I had.

  2. Thanks for the insight Miss Teed. I know I for one drink way more than the recommended amount and often feel the side effects. Did you know that drinking coffee before a workout can be beneficial? Though this may not be for everyone, it can give you the extra boost to kick that tough workout's butt.

  3. This is a great post for some people who go overboard with their daily coffee intake. I know I try to limit myself to two cups of coffee a day at most. Just like you said if I take in too much caffeine in one day I will notice my hands shaking or even just feeling like I'm moving around really quickly, but not in a good way. Not only limit my caffeine intake but also time it just right. I know I've made the mistake before of having a cup of coffee too late and not being able to fall asleep for hours and I wind up hating myself for it.
